Mark Rose headlines a day of angling for youngsters at Tilden Rodgers Park
Times Outdoors Columnist Tilden Rodgers Park was extremely full of young fishermen and their folks trying to catch the “Big One” and a win a prize.
The “Fishing For Fun” Kids Fishing Rodeo is an annual event, now in its fourth year, sponsored by Rose Outdoors, Omega Nu Zeta, 1st Community Bank, Mid-South Ag., Williford Realty, Angels Way Baptist Church, West Memphis Parks, and The Arkansas Game & Fish Commission.
It takes that many groups to provide all the prizes and helpers needed to take care of over 200 kids all catching fish and winning prizes. Mark Rose, a local professional bass fisherman, was happy to serve as the master of ceremonies once again, giving out prizes and getting his picture taken with all the winners.
The prize table was loaded down with a variety of fishing equipment and other gifts. The top prizes were two dozen bicycles, including one given for the first fish after a time signal to start fishing. It was a fun time for both kids and their folks, with many youngsters catching their first fish ever. There were free drinks and hot dogs for all the young fishermen. The AGFC stocked the lake with nice sized catfish and a lot of them were caught. There will certainly be fish for supper for many around these parts.
