Coleman thinks his offense is finally starting to round into shape.

It would be difficult to blame him after his team hit the road to top Marked Tree 49-6 last Friday night to improve to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in the 3-2A conference.

Junior quarterback Gerry Bohanon accounted for 6 touchdowns against the Indians, with 2 going to senior Dontrell Johnson and 3 going to Ojoshuna Bunton.

The other Earle score was a running touchdown from junior back Treyvon Reel.

“We knew it would take a little time with some of the youth we have here,” said Coleman, referring to four sophomores starting on the offensive line and six in all on the offense. “But you want to be at your best in the conference, that’s our goal every year.”

Coleman’s troops were 1-2 after the non-conference portion of the schedule, including a 38-8 loss to Mountain View in week 3, but have outscored league opponents 77-20 in the conference.

Earle was favored by media outlets like Hooten’s Arkansas Football and FearlessFriday.com to win their conference, though key games against Cross County and East Poinsett County still remain.

While youth is the story on Earle’s offense, Bohanon is one of the elder statesmen, and Coleman noticed his passer’s big night.

“He threw some really good balls. I mean, throws that I’ve never seen him make before,” said the coach. “A few of the ones that he made for touchdowns were eye-opening.”

Bohanon has spent his last two summers attending various quar-Photo terback camps. Earle’s offense was brutally efficient, but the defense may have opened some eyes on its own.

“Except for one play where they got us for the touchdown, the defense was really, really sharp,” Coleman explained.

“Cordale Chase was everywhere. I haven’t statted the game yet, but I bet he had 20 tackles. No matter what they did, he snuffed it out.” Chase is a two-way star for Earle, and is also one of those sophomores that are improving along the way.

Earle is at home this week for its homecoming game against Rector. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m., with the presentation of the royalty scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium.
