Man in custody on firearms, parole violation charges
ralphhardin@gmail.com On Wednesday, Sept. 21, West Memphis police detectives received information about the location of a wanted fugitive. Detectives were advised that Deterrius Wilson, a 30 year-old male, was located at a residence in the 2600 block of East Monroe Street in West Memphis.
Detectives were able to locate Wilson in that area and began surveillance on him.
Wilson eventually left the residence, and detectives were able to follow him to 1516 Village Drive.
“When the detectives moved to take Wilson into custody in the driveway,” said West Memphis Police Department Enforcement/Criminal Investigation Division Commander, Capt. Joe Baker, “he fled from the vehicle and into a wooded area behind the residence.”
West Memphis Police, assisted by the Crittenden County Sheriff's Office, Arkansas State Police, Crittenden County Emergency Management Agency and the Memphis Police Department Aviation Unit, were able to establish a perimeter around the area.
Authorities were able to contain Wilson within that perimeter. After a short standoff, at approximately 7:05 p.m., Wilson surrendered to police in a field southwest of South Avalon Street.
Wilson will be arraigned in West Memphis District Court this morning, on multiple charges, including two counts of Felon in Possession of a firearm, Theft by Receiving of a Firearm, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Fleeing and Violation of Parole.
“We would like to thank all the agencies who assisted us in the apprehension of this dangerous criminal,” said Capt. Baker. “All our residents are safer with this subject off the streets.”
