Gun sales surge ahead of 2016 election
It is common belief among Second Amendment advocates that Barack Obama is the best gun salesman in history but, by the same token realizes he will go to any length using and abusing the powers of his office to strip every citizen’s right to bear arms.
Obama’s latest underhanded and backdoor tactic involves the State Department’s so-called Directorate of Defense Trade Controls (DDTC).
Our very own Arkansas U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton along with Sen. Chuck Grassley are among a group of concerned lawmakers that say the DDTC is now trying to impose new fees and regulations on gun or ammunition related businesses in a back-handed manner that tries to bypass or at least limit the Second Amendment guarantee of the right to bear arms.
According to a recently news story on this cited an example that could make some gunsmiths register as “manufacturers” on the grounds that they do work such as changing the sights on a pistol. This means that they would have to pay a fee of $2,250. Such a move, Second Amendment advocates say would force many gunsmiths out of business.
We’re told the DDTC is issuing these directives under the auspices of the International Traffic in Arms Regulations, even though the Obama administration promised a reform that would remove firearms and ammunition from DDTC’s purview and transfer it to the more business-friendly jurisdiction of the Commerce Department.
While this underhanded tactic is being taken, it was interesting to learn guns are selling at unprecedented levels this summer, which means 2016 is well on its way to breaking the all-time record for background checks.
For instance, background checks conducted by the FBI totaled 1,853,815 in August 2016, a 6 percent increase from August 2015.
That’s the most checks ever in the month of August since the FBI started conducting background checks in 1988. Major gun manufacturers such as Smith & Wesson and Sturm Ruger, the two publicly-traded gun companies, just reported double-digit jumps in sales.
S& W reported quarter sales soared 40 percent.
We all know the political rhetoric of the 2016 presidential campaign has taken center stage in the gun industry with Hillary Clinton taking an aggressive approach to serious gun control and anti-gun legislation. Donald Trump, on the other hand, has repeatedly come out in support of the Second Amendment and is going around saying whatever Obama has done or is doing to infringe on the Constitutional rights of lawabiding citizens will be seriously addressed when he takes office.
The point to all this is we all recognize the deliberate attempt by this socialistic president to abolish the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution but at the same time token see record numbers of lawabiding citizens arming themselves as never before.
With this occurring, it is obvious the record number of citizens opposing this repressive action being taken by an out-of-control president who is using his powers in the final days of his administration to fulfill a very radical agenda that many people say is ruining this country.
