Big second quarter lifts Fayette Academy to win

Sports Editor West Memphis Christian dropped a 40-0 decision on the road against Fayette Academy last Friday night in Somerville, Tennessee.

The Black Knights are now 0-2 overall ahead of their district opener on Friday night at home against DeSoto School.

West Memphis Christian battled Fayette Academy (2-0 overall), to a draw after one quarter, but the hosts heated up in the second stanza, scoring 27 points to close the first half out for a 27-0 halftime lead.

Patrick Ratliff was 0-for-3 passing for the Black Knights with an interception.

West Memphis Christian rushed 38 times for 142 yards, just a 3.7-yards per carry average. Senior Jameson Smith led Black Knight rushers with 90 yards on 16 carries, including a long run of 25 yards.

Ratliff and Matthew Baker added 22 yards apiece, while Thomas Warren chipped in with 15 of his own.

Fayette Academy also rushed 38 times in the contest, but for 316 yards, or 8.3 yards per carry and five rushing scores.

Quarterback Spencer Hayden led the Vikings with 65 yards rushing and a touchdown, while freshman Rube Scott posted 62 yards.

Defensively, West Memphis Christian got eight tackles from Mason Nix and six from Charlie Farr. Baker and Ratliff also came up with one tacklefor- loss apiece.

West Memphis Christian will do battle with DeSoto at 7 p.m. on Friday night at Knights Field II.
