Family Health Center hosts community fair

Families get their fill of info, fun and food

It’s community health information. It’s school supplies. It’s a cook-out. It’s a petting zoo. No, it’s the East Arkansas Family Health Center community fair. Cars flooded the big parking lot at the health center on 7th Street and families filled the shaded lot on the last hot and humid Saturday of summer break. The EAFHC capped their week of observing National Health Center week with a community fair.

Tables topped with everything from health insurance information, diabetic awareness and pregnancy resources dotted the shady lane. “Spider-Man” Chris Gleeton, a real arachnologist, drew crowds with his show and tell style teaching about the dangers of the brown recluse, fire ants, and mosquito borne diseases.

A petting zoo captured the attention of youngsters. A donkey, llama, a heard of goats and chickens formed a bread line and begged youngsters for feed, after which the youngsters formed a line to ride a kiddy train routed around the big building.

What’s a block party without face paint, a ton of hot dogs, and a bounce house?

So, the EAFHC had two bouncers, one with a slide and one with a net to keep the kids inside. Face painters brushed countless Hello Kitty masks on little girls while the boys hopped in the bouncers.

(More photos, Page 2) val were the free gifts. A crowd clamored for freebies during a door prize drawing. A sack full of school supplies set students to start back to school on the Saturday before classes began.

Fogleman said if the council decides not to renew the lease the lost revenue would not seriously hurt the city’s finances.

“We’re not talking about a lot of rent money if they stop renting from us, and at the same time we’re not talking about that much cash either,” Fogleman said.
