I believe Donald Trump is showing our United States what happens when someone who is NOT controlled by politics, cannot be bought, and rankly is “just most likely he is a threat to their agendas. Which in turn, means he is a threat to their lies and deceptions. It probably means he is exactly what America needs right now. People are always saying we need to get every career politician out of politics, might as well start at the top. Bottom line is if no party likes; your probably doing it right. The media plays favorites and bias; even newspapers. Ones favored because is a rub my back and I’ll rub yours business pay an American.” Just what happens. Democrats hate him, and the government wants to destroy him. So if no party backs him; Also names are mentioned in the paper but you can bet your bottom dollar you won’t see the favored personalities; especially locally.
[ Editor’s Note: As I’ve gotten older, my dial has slowly moved toward “ the right,” but I have ever only voted for two Replublicans in any race at any level ( Mike Huckabee for Governor of Arkansas and another candidate in a State House race several years ago). Now, I was perfectly willing to support John McCain in 2008, but as the campaign wore on it became clear ( to me, at least) that he was not up to the rigors of being President ( and Sarah Palin scared the crap out of me). Now, here in 2016, I believe the Republicans had a real opportunity to end Democratic control of the White House.
The last time a party was able to successfully pass the presidency off to a candidate that was not the sitting vicepresident was 1908. That’s what the Democrats are attempting to do here. Voters have shown that they are leery of keeping the same party in power too long.
Since the end of World War II, only Regan/ Bush were able to win three elections in a row. Now, having said all that, with history on their side, the “ best” candidate the GOP was able to get was Trump? It’s like they don’t want to win. Now, as for locally, it won’t matter how Trump polls in Crittenden County. At last look, he had a double- digit lead over Clinton in Arkansas, and barring a major shift, he’ll garner all six of the state’s electoral votes]
*** We often complain about our utilities company, especially when the monthly bill arrives. Last Friday night about 9:00pm the lights went off. We live out in the Proctor area and all our neighbors still had power. I called Entergy and much to my surprise, a real live person answered the call and we discussed the problem. He said there would be help before 11:00pm. Sure enough, about 9:30 the service man arrived and checked out the problem. He said it would take more men plus equipment. He called for help. About midnight they knocked on the door telling me all was fixed and apologized for the inconvenience. I want to thank these men for coming out late on a hot weekend night. Entergy should be proud of their service men. THANK YOU.
[ Editor’s Note: As someone who has a decided preference for conditioned air and abhors the idea of being outside on dark, sticky August night with the mosquitoes, the Entergy crew earns a thumbs up from me. Good work, guys]
*** To the question of “why is all of your sports coverage dominated by Marion School”? I agree with this person that wrote this comment. Yea maybe since August it has been fair and balanced but check your records. There is very little coverage of sports in wm compared to Marion. But we will see… it’s a new school year. [ Editor’s Note: This is, I believe, what is known as a cognitive bias, which, in this case, is a tendency to think something is true because of a personal investment in that idea being true. This comes up every so often, not just with sports but with the regular news, and when it does, I go back and look at the numbers, and it is ( within a story or two) pretty even. Every. Single. Time.]
*** Well here we go again, Councilman Cross and Council woman Sarah Johnson apparently doesn’t have anything to keep them busy so they just watch Mayor Jones all day. I remember a time when Council woman Johnson’s husband was in the Evening Times about voter fraud. (Huh)! Well do Councilman Cross really live in Earle?? Anyone can park vehicles at a residence. Since he is still a newlywed he should be focusing his time with his new bride, and Council woman Johnson well evidently she doesn’t have anything to keep her occupied. So I guess they have to keep talking about the Mayor. (People get a life)!!! I guess you guys love for the mayor’s name to come out of your mouths. By the way did you all check to see if Mr. Baker was on lunch when he was washing the Mayor’s car, just thought I would put that out there. Well all this time Mayor Jones has been in office she hasn’t got cooperation from the Council and we all suppose to be Christians. Well I wonder!!!! [ Editor’s Note: This sounds like the Earle version of “ Harper Valley PTA”]
