Does Marion have a code enforcement officer? If so, how in the world is that red dilapidated old plywood shed able to stand near the courthouse, church and the Sultana museum? It’s an embarrassment to our city.

[ Editor’s Note: Jerry Kelley is the City Building Inspector, as well as head of the Code Enforcement Department. His number is ( 870) 739- 5416. If that doesn’t help, according to their web site ( marionar. org), the Marion Code Enforcement Committee consists of Bryan Jackson, Sherry Holliman, Cliff Wood, the aforementioned Mr. Kelley, and Mayor Frank Fogleman. Perhaps you could ask one of those fine folks?]

*** how are u dooig [ Editor’s Note: I’m dooig pretty gud.

You?]

*** I’m curious. Why do so many couples who don’t live in Crittenden County come here to apply for a marriage license? Many people travel from Tennessee and Mississippi. It was listed in the paper last week that one couple from Virginia. I guess one good thing about it brings steady income into the county. [ Editor’s Note: It does indeed bring virtually effortfree money to the county. There are a few factors that make Crittenden County the “ romance capital” that it is. Folks who grew up here often come back home to get married, it’s cheaper than many neighboring areas, the marriage license requirements are relatively lax compared to many areas as well. I’d guess that on at least some occasions, a couple or two was just so “ crazy in love” that they stopped off on the way to Vegas and got hitched right here. Ain’t that romantic? But seriously, with no blood test, no waiting period, and comparatively simple document requirements, Crittenden County is juxtaposed right near Tennessee, Mississippi and Misourri, making it a convenient out- of- state spot for those seeking marital bliss]

*** To the Editor… whenever the hospital is opened I pray that some of those nice nurses come back… male and female… I was in icu… they were great… [ Editor’s Note: I imagine it will come down to how happy those folks are in their new jobs. Remember, it’s been two years since Crittenden Regional closed, and that was 400 or so folks left to find gainful employment elsewhere. I’m sure the lure of working closer to home will be appealing, but it’s got to be tough to make the call to change jobs — again if you’re happy where you are]

*** To the reader that complained about the Commercial Appeal carrier throwing his trash in your yard. At least you can pick it up with a paper being delivered. My Evening Times carrier must have a better job somewhere and decides when he wants to deliver papers. Rainy days you can expect not getting a paper or for some reason Thursday and Fridays. Numerous calls to circulation has not helped that much, so I just pick the papers up at the office or do without. Maybe I’ll start keeping count of papers not received and subtract that from my subscription when I send it in! [ Editor’s Note: This is quite the passive- aggressive text. I’m not sure one has anything to do with the other. But as to your issue, if you’ll text me your address ( I won’t publish it), I’ll see if I can get whatever the issue is resolved with Circulation]
