New selections, recommendations for readers

Crawfordsville Branch Librarian Although the temperatures aren’t winding down, summer is. The kids will be back to school soon and families will be settling into another routine. Topping off the summer are, of course, the Olympics in Brazil.

For those of you avid fans, I want to recommend “The Boys in the Boat” by Daniel James Brown. It’s a factual account about Depression- era working-class boys who represented the U.S. at the 1936 Berlin Games.

Read about how the eightoar crew defeated elite teams of the East Coast, Great Britain and the German boat rowing for Adolph Hitler. It’s a heartwarming portrait of an era, a celebration of a remarkable achievement, and a chronicle of one extraordinary young man’s personal quest. It’s a great read.

If athletics aren’t your thing, I have lots of action/ adventure/mystery books to choose from such as: “Cross Kill” and “The Games” (Private Rio) by James Patterson, “Dishonorable Intentions” by Stuart Woods, “The Emperor’s Revenge” by Clive Cussler, “Foreign Agent” by Brad Thor, “Before The Fall” by Noah Hawley, “The House of Secrets” by Brad Meltzer and “Ghost Sniper” by Scott McEwen. Other selections include: “Magic” by Danielle Steele, “The Bourbon Kings” by J. R.

Ward, “Marriage, Mon-sters In-Law and Murder” by Sara Rosett, “What Happened on Beale Street” by Mary Ellis and “The Last Time She Saw Him” by Jane Haseldine.

More new selections are available. So, if you are in the area, stop on by.
