Quorum Court justice makes a complete Bass of himself
Whether you agree or not with Crittenden County Quorum Court Justice Hubert Bass’ proposal to “ban the box”, which would have removed a question asking job applicants to disclose whether they have been convicted of any felonies, his juvenile and racist reaction to fellow black justices when they voted against it would seem to us as legitimate grounds for his immediate dismissal from public office.
By Bass calling Justice Vickie Robertson and all of the court’s black justices “You old Coon,” and “I’m tired of you. I’m sick of you. And all you niggers are still coons just like I called y’all…” seriously diminishing the respect of this entire quorum court.
Let’s make it absolutely clear that if this had been a white quorum court justice repeating such racist and offensive remarks there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever the black community would up in arms demanding that he or she be, not only removed from office, but arrested.
Even Crittenden County Sheriff Mike Allen, who was attending the quorum court meeting, said Bass should have been arrested for disorderly conduct and we certainly agree.
Bass’ juvenile behavior clearly demonstrates a total lack of respect for the public office he currently holds but also shows a racist attitude by an elected official who, if white, would have caused everything from major protests to blacks demanding removal from office.
But, Bass being the person he is, and the attitude of being “politically correct” his racial rant is being dismissed with such comments such as that from Justice Tyrone McWright who said, “Come on back (Bass) because we want to work with you.”
We do commend Justice Roberston who responded to Bass’ ridiculous outburst by saying, “We’re not going to have this.”
Instead of condemning Bass’ outburst, Justice Lisa O’Neal responded by saying, “I think this is a wonderful thing. If we fix the wording, I think it has a good chance of passing.”
Pandering to such nonsense is sending the wrong message that tells Bass his juvenile behavior as a public official is okay and there are no consequences for his racist attitude.
Bass has been pushing this ordinance on the basis that the county’s current job applications unfairly discriminate against hiring applicants who had a previous felony conviction.
Justice Lorenzo Parker logically and intelligently asked the question why the county would want to ban the box if applicants were still going to have to pass a background check anyway. Lorenzo went on to say, “If you get the person in a mindset that they have a chance for a job and a background check comes back and then it disqualifies them, then what is the purpose?”
“So,” he asks, “What is this ordinance eliminating? In my mind it is just giving them one more step to be discriminated against.”
BIBLE VERSE
With Bass’ racial attitude, why should any consideration be given to this meaningless proposal. Instead of banning the box it might be suggested to ban the author of this senseless ordinance.
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
