Redbirds Come Up Short in Bid for Sweep

Memphis’ eight- game home winning streak comes to a close

Memphis Redbirds MEMPHIS, Tennessee – The Memphis Redbirds fell short in their bid for a ninth-straight home win and a sweep of the Iowa Cubs (Triple-A Cubs) with a 6-2 loss Monday night at AutoZone Park.

A win would have given Memphis (49-52) its longest home winning streak since also winning nine-in-a-row from August 18-30, 2010. All 10 Cub (44-59) non-pitchers had at least one hit in the game, including a pinch-hitter, while Anthony Garcia and Efren Navarro combined to go 5-for-8 for Memphis as the other eight Redbird batters were 0-for-24.

Garcia was 3-for-4 for his second-straight three-hit game, and he homered for the second-straight contest with a solo shot in the sixth. Navarro also homered, which was his sixth of the season and first as a Redbird.

Corey Baker gave up five runs in the first three innings, but he settled down and allowed only four hits in his final 4.0 innings of work, all of which were singles.
