‘Flying Fortress’ visit canceled

B- 17 grounded for repairs

ralphhardin@gmail.com Due to maintenance issues, the B-17 “Flying Fortress” visit scheduled for July 25 has been canceled.

“Sadly, the B-17 Texas Raiders encountered an extended maintenance issue that we cannot resolve in time to make our committed event in West Memphis,” said Nancy Kwiecien with CAF Gulf Coast Wing. “In fact, we will have to cancel events in two other cities as well.

However, when flying antique airplanes safety comes first, so out of an abundance of caution we will not be making our planned Midwest tour.”

“While disappointed, I certainly commend the B17 Texas Raiders' for their commitment to safety and proper maintenance of this important piece of aviation history,” noted West Memphis Airport director Lynda Avery.

Kwiecien said that the event would likely be rescheduled, although no date has been set, and it may not be until the group’s 2017 tour.
