This year was the first year a program was open to new Master Gardener’s only. It was called Annuals to Perennials. New Master Gardeners were invited to attend with their mentors, they had to finish their classroom training between June 1, 2015, and May 31, 2016. Their were four locations listed between June 20th and June 22nd. Those from Crittenden County attended the Batesville, AR seminar on June 22nd at the UACCB Auditorium. They enjoyed listening to Dr. Lelia Kelly, Mississippi State University. Extension Professor of Horticulture, Consumer Horticulture Specialist, Master Gardener State Coordinator who did a program on “ Plants from Grandmama’s Garden”. And everyone enjoys Janet Carson, University of Arkansas Extension, Horticulture Specialist, Consumer Horticulture Specialist, Master Gardener State Coordinator, she did a program on “New Plants for 2016“ . New members for 2016 attending were: Alfred & Susan Creekmore, Jeanette Cumbia, Margaret Harrell, Diane Murphy, Pamela Myrick and Jeff Tacker. Mentors attending were: Melinda Akins, Holly Bacon, John Barber and Brenda Currie.

Town Meeting
Since the first Monday of the Month is the July 4th holiday, The Horseshoe Lake Town meeting will be on July 11, 6:30 p.m. at City Hall on Highland
Drive.

Garden Club
The Hughes Town and Country Garden Club (HTCGC) gave The First National Bank of Eastern Arkansas in Hughes, the Yard of the Month sign. The HTCGC was also proud to see The Arkansas Gardener June newsletter, put out by Arkansas Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc. In this issue HTCGC received First place for the Award #16-4 Flower Show Schedule, put together by Teresa Shannon. The Club will receive a $ 25.00 check. In the Press Book Awards, HTCGC received Second place for small club, it had been many years since they had turned in an entry.

This year Pier Decorating numbers can be picked up starting on June 25, at Bond's Grocery through noon July 2. Be sure and list your name and phone number on the sheet in accordance with the number you pick up. Please make sure you put your numbers in the CENTER of the pier, this makes it easier to identify with pictures for paper. If you have any questions you can contact Holly Bacon at 870-3393514 or Gina Good at 870339-3641. Boat parade numbers are issued at 6:30 p.m. on the west side of the lake and boat parade begins at 7 p.m.
Schedule: 6:30 a.m. 5K Run ( 20 entry fee, includes t-shirt or tank top). 7 a.m. 5K Run (Bonds to Old Grocery). 8 a.m. Bicycle Registration (20 entry fee, includes tshirt or tank top). 8:30 a.m. 'Tour de Horseshoe' Bike Race.
The Surf Club will be having events going on also on Saturday. 8 a.m. Registration begins for Tournaments and Contests. Fishing Rodeo is 8:30-9:30 a.m., Cornhole Toss- 10 a.m and Horseshoe Toss-11 a.m. , Water slides, Children's Games – 10:30 a.m. Cake Walk at random times during the day, (while donated supplies last), Concession stand opens 11 a.m., American Flag Raising Ceremony-Noon. Live Auction with Mike Carter at 1 p.m. This year there will not be a Little Miss Horseshoe Competition. Volunteers are needed to work these events in order for them to go smoothly, so don't complain, volunteer your time.
