Sports Editor The 1st Community Bank West Memphis Blue Devils concluded their extended summer season by losing 5-2 to Union City, Tennessee at the Covington High School Tournament in Covington, Tennessee.

The Blue Devils finished 4-10 overall with the loss.

Lance Burch was the losing pitcher for West Memphis and he was also 1-3 with a triple at the plate.

Austin Sudbury was also 1-3, while Curtis Washington was 1-2 with a single. Hayden Spears and Tyla Bradford were also 1-2, while Michael Troxler was 1-3.

“We didn’t finish the season like we would have liked, but the good thing that came out of this tournament is the players have learned how to compete for a complete game,” says West Memphis head coach Gary Cordell. “I’d like to thank 1st Community Bank for sponsoring our team this summer and look forward to having their name on our chest again next summer.”

Cordell said that he’s going to give his team the rest of the summer off before jumping back into preparation for the season in the fall.
