For what it’s worth, any dog can be trained as a service dog. However, certified service dogs are typically identified by insignia on their harnesses, and they typically wear harnesses rather than collars. [ Editor’s Note: I’m not sure if ANY dog can be trained as a service dog. We had this one dog that was about as sharp as a bowl of Jell- O. But to your point, I’d imagine anyone trying to pass their pet off as a service animal could manage to find one of those harnesses somewhere]
*** In Marion the other day, my husband and I saw a Marion policeman in his car. He was so big that he was like cramped in the front seat. My husband made the observation, “I don’t see how he can hardly turn the steering wheel.” Do the Marion police have to do any type of agility test like the firemen have to do? I don’t see how he could be of much help if I were in a situation. Marion police, see if the Biggest Loser will come here and help ya’ll. [ Editor’s Note: Per the Marion Police Department’s web site, there are a number of qualifications to be a Marion Police Officer. They are: “ 1. Basic requirements for employment include but are not limited to, A High School Graduate or GED. 21 Years or older, good physical health, ( physical required); 2. Be able to pass a background investigation; 3.
Mandatory drug test ( Marion is a drug free work place ); 4.
Must pass the state of Arkansas certified officers training Academy to be attended within the first year of employment. I’m going to assume the officer to which you were referring was able to meet those requirements]
*** Help. Weather? [ Editor’s Note: Mark Twain is attributed a quote, wherein he says, “ Everyone complains about the weather, but no one does anything about it.” And while I’d like to help, I’m afraid I don’t have that kind of pull]
*** I’m like the man complaining about the loud music I do believe it can be stopped I live in Pecan Ridge and you can’t even open your windows in the summer. also the speeding on South avalon mostly Tennessee cars who live in West Memphis need to pay taxes like I do where are the police Donald Oakes. [ Editor’s Note: I don’t really see it in my neighborhood, but growing up, it was pretty common for folks to be outside during the summer with some kind of radio playing, which I again must stress, is not in violation of any kind of city ordinance I could find ( but I would be happy to be proven wrong). If the music were to contain profanity or some other vitriolic language, you might have grounds for a complaint.
A noise ordinance, directed at Riverside International Speedway rather than at loud music, was proposed in 2014, but it failed. To your other points, speeding or not speeding, if you establish residence in Arkansas, you have 30 days to transfer your car tags, so if you know that someone is living in West Memphis but has Tennessee tags, and you really want to bother with it, you could report them. No police officer is going to pull someone with out- of- state license plates over just to check their residency]
*** Angelos Grove needs to stick to the master plan! If a hotel wants to build bad enough they will follow the rules like everyone else. You can’t make exceptions for certain people. What we really need are more nice restaurants. [ Editor’s Note: Or a movie theater! I don’t know how many times in the past 20 years I’ve heard we were getting a movie theater. If communities the size and demographics of Wynne and Forrest City can maintain and operate a movie theater, surely we can]
