Escaped murderer captured, Jones found in Lee County
ralphhardin@gmail.com Convicted murderer Lloyd Jones, who escaped from a work detail near Brickeys earlier this week, is back in jail. The search for the escapee ended Thursday afternoon after as authorities were able to locate and capture him. Arkansas Department of Correction spokesman Solomon Graves confirms Jones was caught just after 3 p.m. Thursday, after three days of searching for him.
Crittenden County Sheriff Mike Allen reported Jones’ recapture to the Times.
“I was listening in,” said Allen, “and when I hear him say they had ‘eyes on the prize,’ I could tell by the excitement in his voice, they had him.”
Allen said a police helicopter on loan from Baxter County aided in the pursuit. After being placed into custody, Jones was taken to the Maximum Security Unit in Tucker. Reports indicate Jones was found near Soudan in Lee County, about three miles from the East Arkansas Regional Unit, and about five miles from where he escaped during the work detail.
“The capture of Lloyd Jones is a testament to the dedication of the ADC staff and our law enforcement partners involved in this
search,” said Arkansas Department of Corrections director Wendy
Kelley. “I, along with many others, are grateful for their combined efforts.”
