Memphis Redbirds NASHVILLE, Tennessee – The Nashville Sounds (40-26) took an early lead and never looked back, scoring 12 runs in the first 3.0 innings, and finished with a 16-3 win over the Memphis Redbirds (28-35). Seth Maness had a good outing in his first rehab appearance for Memphis, retiring all three batters he faced in the seventh inning. He made three appearances for Springfield before being transferred to Memphis.
Brayan Pena also made his first rehab appearance for Memphis. He went 1-for-4 at the plate, hitting a single in the top of the eighth inning.
The Redbirds struggled at the plate, hitting just five times all game. Michael McKenry went 2-for-4 at the dish as the designated hitter while Nick Martini, Jose Martinez and Pena each had one hit. McKenry has now hit .333 in his 12 games with the Redbirds this season.
Dillon Overton picked up his seventh win as a starter this season for the Nashville Sounds. In 7.0 innings of work, he gave up just two runs on four hits while fanning six and issued just one walk.
In his 12th start of the season, Arturo Reyes threw 2.0 innings and gave up eight runs on seven hits while issuing two walks. Reyes had five wins as a starter in May but has yet to win in June.
The Redbirds and Sounds play tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m. (CT) before the Redbirds are back at AutoZone Park Friday through Monday to host the Iowa Cubs (Triple-A Cubs). The upcoming homestand features an Adult Performance T-Shirt giveaway on Friday, a Redbirds Beach Towel giveaway on Saturday along with a Kolten Wong Hawaiian Jersey theme ticket and postgame fireworks, and a Father’s Day celebration and Cardinals adult socks giveaway on Sunday.
