Armstrong Moving On

After a spectacular sophomore campaign, Tyler Armstrong signed a National Letter of Intent with East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma, in a ceremony held in the Reynolds Center at ASU Mid-South.

Armstrong, a 6'2' guard, led the Greyhounds to back-to-back 18-win seasons while topping the team in scoring by averaging 15.6 points per game. He shot 43% from the field and over 37% from the threepoint line while knocking down 79% from the free throw line and was one of only two players to start all 29 games. He also added 3.7 rebounds, 2.7 assists and a team-leading 1.8 steals per game while capturing NJCAA All-Region First Team honors.

The Brinkley, Arkansas, native is going to a top-tier NCAA Division II program as the Tigers took a share of the 2015-16 Great American Conference championship while finishing 22-8 overall before falling in the conference tournament semifinals.

The Greyhounds finished the season in the NJCAA Region 2 Championship with an 18-11 record, tying the school record for wins in a season. The team finished seventh in the nation in scoring (92.8 points per game), first in rebounds (49.5 rebounds per game) and fifth in assists (21.3 assists per game), 18th in field goal percentage (.484) and 20th in rebound margin (11.3), all school records.

'Tyler is one of our biggest success stories and just goes to show you what hard work can do,' said ASU Mid-South head coach Chris Parker. 'He is a competitor who backs down from nothing and faces adversity with a resolve few young men have,' Parker said. 'He is a selfmade player in that he has worked for everything he has achieved. ECU is getting a solid person and student- athlete, and I look forward to watching Tyler's success at the next level.'

Armstrong is the 12th Greyhound to sign with a 4year university in the past two seasons.
