Re: The Jericho Police/State Trooper feud.
While the civil rights allegations are ridiculous, is it just not possible that it actually was a case of retaliation? Is it that far fetched?
Respected or not, it's not completely outside the realm of possibility that his son was in fact speeding.
Why else would the trooper take the controversial step of citing another officer?
That's definitely not standard operating procedure even though it should be since police themselves are not above the laws they enforce.
[ Editor’s Note: Oh, it’s seems pretty clear that it was retaliation, or maybe proving a point, or whatever you might want to call it. And it’s certainly possible his son was speeding. I think there’s nothing wrong with professional courtesy up to a point, but this is really just turning into a joke. Not a funny one, but a joke nonetheless]
*** Our View/Opinion May 24, 2016 As I read this article I wonder why the author of this piece chose not to identify him/herself it seems that he has already made up his mind even though I read that the investigation is on going. Who’s to say that just because the father is a State Trooper he is above being petty. I would probably wait until the investigation is complete before passing judgement. Also you might ask yourself how many unsuspecting black motorist get stop in small American towns for no reason. Plus there’s no such thing as speed trap, if you are speeding and get caught it’s not the policeman fault. Something else I have found over the years that the children of law enforcement officer have a tendency to think they are above the law. [ Editor’s Note: I get what you are saying. A couple of things, though. You say, “ you might ask yourself how many unsuspecting black motorist get stop in small American towns for no reason.” Is this relevant to this issue? I’m only asking because it doesn’t seem like anyone here is saying that anyone got pulled over for “ no reason.” If anything, it just seems like bringing up race for the sake of bringing up race. Especially since that statement is followed by your next statement, saying, “ There’s no such thing as speed trap, if you are speeding and get caught it’s not the policeman fault.” I can get behind the idea that policemen and policemen’s children are equally not above the law, but seeing this all play out in the court of public opinion honestly just makes me shake my head]
*** To whom it may concern, I’m concerned about the article you had in evening times the part concerning Harvard Yard and Sunset. First of all what do Sunset have to do with Harvard Yard our city looks nothing like Harvard Yard. Sunset is a beautiful city it’s on the rise we may not be equipped like Marion but when our Mayor Eddie Craig III and the citizens of Sunset work together we make our city what it is. Woody Wheeler went to Harvard yard at election time and promised them people a miracle and haven’t delivered it to them but those citizens got to know it takes all of them to make their community a better place. Sunset is much better now. The mayor has gotten the community involved. Mayor Eddie Craig III gets out there and pick up paper, cut grass whatever the city needs he has no problem doing it. Sunset has never had a mayor that takes pride in our town that’s why we take pride in our Mayor and stand behind him 100%. To whomever speaks on my city just know he is a son of God and therefore the community can’t do anything but shine bright with a leader that follows the most high. The thing about our Mayor is he never said he wouldn’t help Harvard yard he just know Sunset doesn’t have the resources to do it alone. The citizens of Harvard yard has to first put forth effort and then people will step in to help. I’m sure some of the citizens in surrounding areas will take part also and Woody Wheeler need to still step up and do what he promise he would do. [ Editor’s Note: The article you mention, at least as far as I can see, did nothing to disparage Sunset. It was simply discussing the push by the Crittenden County Quorum Court to put Harvard Yard’s trash collection under the purview of Sunset, the city that already provides the neighborhood with water and sewer service. My personal opinion on this is that the county should foot the bill to clean up Harvard Yard and then have Sunset take over with a “ clean slate,” if you will, moving forward. Of course, I’m not the one crunching county numbers, so I don’t know if the resources for either of those ideas is there]
*** Can someone please tell me how it is that a WMPD OFFICER transports his child to and from school every day in a patrol vehicle… everyone talks about Earle. Looks like. West Memphis has a bit of abuse going on here. Richland Elementary every morning and afternoon. Black male officer.
[ Editor’s Note: Just so I can say I did, I thoroughly searched West Memphis municipal code for any sort of provision that would exclude an officer from taking his kids to school in his or her patrol car. I found no such provision. Having said that, if you can discern the differ-ence between a police officer dropping off and picking up his kids from school within the city limits of the city in which he lives and works, and the mayor of a city driving a city- owned vehicle more than 20 miles, one- way, three towns over, on non- city business, on the city’s dime, I imagine there is no explanation I could offer here that you would accept]
