Steen, Toliver move on to UAPB

For the first time in the program's brief history, two Greyhounds have signed Division I scholarships in the same season. Trent Steen and Joe'Randle Toliver both signed with the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff to further their academic and athletic careers at the Southwestern Athletic Conference school.

'This is a testament to the talents, time and energy both of these young men possess,' said Athletic Director and Head Coach Chris Parker. 'We are so proud of them and the opportunities they have created for themselves both on the court and in the classroom.'

Steen, a 6'7' forward, started all 29 games for the Greyhounds and averaged 12.0 points while leading the team in both rebounds (7.8) and blocked shots (1.4), the latter of which ranked in the top 50 in the nation. He also averaged 2.1 assists and 1.0 steal per game while shooting 49.3% from the field and 70.4% from the free throw line.

'Trent came to us after winning a state championship in high school with a high motor and motivation to get better,' said Parker. 'When he first stepped on campus he was 175 pounds, and he bought into what the weight room could do for him and now two years later he has added 40 pounds of muscle and developed into a solid basketball player.'

Toliver, a 6'4' guard, was a starter for the 2013-14 Region 2 Championship team before redshirting in 2014-15. He averaged 10.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and a team-leading 4.1 assists per game while shooting 41.7% from the field, 34.3% from the three-point line, and a team-best 81.4% from the free throw line. His 1.6 steals per game were second on the team.

'Joe'Randle played in back-to-back state championship games in high school and was known as a shooter, but he has done a great job of rounding out his game with the ability to attack the rim,' said Parker. 'He's a long, ball-handling guard who touches a lot of balls on defense as well, and he has the ability to do great things at UAPB.'

The Greyhounds finished the season in the NJCAA Region 2 Championship with an 18-11 record, tying the school record for wins in a season. The team finished seventh in the nation in scoring (92.8 points per game), first in rebounds (49.5 rebounds per game) and fifth in assists (21.3 assists per game), 18th in field goal percentage (.484) and 20th in rebound margin (11.3), all school records.

Both players lettered two seasons for the Greyhounds and are scheduled to graduate and play for the UAPB Golden Lions this fall.
