Signing their third high school prospect in the last three days, the Greyhounds have inked D'Ayerian Montgomery to an NJCAA Letter of Intent and Scholarship Agreement during a ceremony Wednesday at Horn Lake High School in Horn Lake, Mississippi.
The 5'11', 180-pound team captain finished his high school career by averaging 17.8 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.1 assists and 1.0 steal per game for a 1412 team who struggled with injuries throughout the season. Despite the setbacks, Montgomery shot 40% from the field, 34% from the three-point line and 69% from the free throw line as he netted a teamhigh 55 treys in 25 games for head coach Tori Harris.
'We are excited to add D'Ayerian to the ASU Mid-South family,' said Greyhound head coach Chris Parker. 'He has very good quickness and explosion, is exceptional at leading the break, and can knock down the open jump shot. We are certainly excited about what he can do on the court, but we are just as excited about his character and leadership potential in our program. He is a good student, a good athlete and a good person which makes him a great fit for our program,' Parker said.
As a junior, Montgomery teamed with current Greyhound Ladarius Mason and helped the team to a 22-7 record and second- place finish in 6A Region 1 before capturing the District 2 Championship and advancing to the quarterfinals of the state tournament. The Eagles finished that season ranked #12 overall in the state of Mississippi according to MaxPreps.com. Montgomery was named to the 6A Region 1 All-District team as both a junior and senior as well.
'He is a good leader, an outstanding young man, and a very talented basketball player who adds to any team he is a part of,' said Harris.
