Brown, Jones to extend careers

Two more Greyhounds are moving on after an outstanding two years at ASU Mid-South by signing with four-year universities to further their academic and athletic careers.

Tevin Brown, a 5'10' guard from Pine Bluff, Arkansas, signed with the University of Texas at Tyler while Tasmania Jones, a 6'6' forward from Wynne, Arkansas, inked with Tougaloo College in Jackson, Mississippi.

Brown started 27 of 29 games and averaged 7.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game while shooting 43.5% from the field, an outstanding 41.9% from the three-point line and 77.8% from the free throw line. He had high games of 17 points (twice), six rebounds and seven assists.

'Tevin was our hardest worker who practically lives in the gym,' said ASU Mid-South head coach Chris Parker. 'He is constantly working on his game, and it is that work ethic that shows that he will be successful in whatever he chooses to pursue.

UT-Tyler is getting a special young man, and his best days certainly lie ahead of him.'

Jones also spent two years in a Greyhound uniform as a starter both seasons, improving his numbers as a sophomore to average 15.5 points, 7.7 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.1 steals while shooting a schoolrecord 71.4% from the field, good for second in the nation. He had high games of 26 points, 16 rebounds and six assists.

'Taz helped us change the program by giving us our first dominant scorer in the post,' said Parker.

'However, he can score from just about anywhere on the court and set the school record for field goal percentage in a season. He has a God-given ability to use his body in ways that most other people his size cannot, and I know that Tougaloo will appreciate his talent the next two years.'

The Greyhounds finished the season in the NJCAA Region 2 Championship with an 18-11 record, tying the school record for wins in a season. The team finished seventh in the nation in scoring (92.8 points per game), first in rebounds (49.5 rebounds per game) and fifth in assists (21.3 assists per game), 18th in field goal percentage (.484) and 20th in rebound margin (11.3), all school records.
