Memphis Drops Finale to Sacramento

Redbirds averaging 7,446 fans per game

Memphis Redbirds MEMPHIS, Tenn. – The Memphis Redbirds settled for a series split with the Sacramento River Cats (Triple-A Giants) after a 10-3 loss Tuesday afternoon in front of 9,022 fans at AutoZone Park in Memphis.

The Redbirds (15-21) were going for their first series win of the season but have now tied seven series and lost three others. Sacramento (16-24) scored three in the first inning and three in the eighth to bookend the win. David Washington had a season-high three hits in the game, and he extended his hitting streak to nine games. Washington has a hit in 10 of his 11 games as a Redbird after being transferred from Double-A Springfield. Charlie Tilson was 1-for-4 with a walk to move his hitting streak to six games. Dean Anna drove in two runs for the Redbirds.

J.C. Sulbaran took the loss for the Redbirds and is now 2-4. He gave up five runs on seven hits in five innings of work, and Ryan Sherriff and John Church were touched for five more out of the bullpen. Heath Wyatt and Sam Tuivailala worked scoreless innings of relief for Memphis.

After giving up five earned runs in his first five appearances of the season, Tuivailala has had eightstraight scoreless outings.

The Redbirds left 11 runners on base in the game and were 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position.

After an off-day on Wednesday, Memphis’ eight-game homestand resumes with College Night and all-you-can-eat bar-b-que and slaw with a buffet ticket purchase on Thursday, Silky O’Sullivan’s Irish Heritage Night and green Redbirds hat giveaway on Friday, replica Yadier Molina Cardinals jersey giveaway, Cardinals full-zip hooded sweatshirt theme ticket and postgame fireworks on Saturday, and another Prairie Farms Ice Cream Sunday to conclude the homestand on Sunday the 22nd.
