Tiebreaker goes Mountain Home’s way
Sports Editor The Marion High School baseball team lost out on a tiebreaker and missed the cut for this season’s Class 6A state baseball tournament in Sheridan.
Marion (3-24 overall, 3-11 7A/6A-East, 1-5 6A-East) had the exact same record against the 6A-East that league rival Mountain Home did, and the two schools beat each other by one run apiece, but the Bombers will advance to the postseason after having won its league games by more runs.
The Pats and Bombers won on their respective home fields, with Marion claiming a 2-1 win at John Robbins Field, because Mountain Home claimed a 3-2 victory, which pushed the teams down to the third tiebreaker in the Arkansas Activities Association handbook.
Mountain Home claimed the berth thanks to a pair of maximum five-run wins against West Memphis in March.
Marion also swept West Memphis, but the Pats won two games in Tilden Rodgers Park 7-3 and 11-7, leaving the Pats two runs behind the Bombers for the league’s final playoff slot.
