Respect from a Stranger
Family touched by roadside salute
ralphhhardin@gmail.com Funeral services were held for Shelby Wade Musick last Friday morning. It was an appropriately somber day for such an event, with a steady rain coming down. While a funeral is a decidedly sad event, the family and friends of the deceased did have their spirits lifted by an anonymous man who wanted to pay his respects.
“Last Friday, as my family was leaving Roller-Citizens Funeral Home following the services, we noticed a man standing outside his grey truck at attention, saluting Mr. Musick,” said one mourner who declined to give his name, but wanted to thank the man.
“As a naval veteran, he would have certainly appreciated this gesture. My family saw this and it lifted their spirits, touching their hearts that a complete stranger would show this respect for a veteran. We noticed that he stood in the pouring rain until all the cars had passed.”
Despite the bad weather, the funeral goers were able to witness a token of respect that no amount of rain
could dampen. “Our family wanted to express
our thanks and appreciation for this random act
of kindness shown by a complete stranger,” he said. “We know that Mr. Musick would have been honored and greatly appreciated this gesture just as our family did. So to whomever this gentleman is, we thank you very much and want you to know how much we appreciated this act of kindness.”
