Cabot stops West Memphis
Panthers storm to 9- 0 lead in win
WM School District West Memphis baseball said goodbye to two seniors on Tuesday at Tilden Rodgers Complex, but the Blue Devils couldn't make it a happier occasion as they lost to Cabot 9-1.
Jordan Walls and Ta'Darrius McGee ended their high school careers on a picture perfect day, weather-wise.
And the Blue Devils made a huge statement of support to their head coach Adam Neal's wife, Brooke, who is battling cancer and is still in Mexico for treatments. The team donned pink jerseys with the initials BN on the front.
'We're fighting for our coach and his wife,' said West Memphis interim coach Jonathan Crymes.
'We want to represent the things they are doing right now and that is battling with all they've got. We just wanted to show our support with the pink jerseys.'
The Blue Devils did battle hard, and with three innings in the book it was a close one with Cabot clinging to a 2-0 lead. But the Panthers put up seven runs over the next two innings to open up a 9-0 lead.
McGee picked up two of the team's three hits on the day and sophomore catcher Taylor Roeder drove in the team's only run in the fifth when he doubled down the left-field line.
Starting and losing pitcher Curtis Washington also grinded out five frames on the mound and had only a few of his pitches squared up.
The Blue Devils close out their season on Friday with a follow-up at Cabot.
