Jonesboro thumps Marion, 16-1
Too much offense from Golden Hurricane
Sports Editor Jonesboro completed a season sweep of Marion with a 16-1 win yesterday at John Robbins Field.
The Golden Hurricane had previously topped the Pats on Tuesday afternoon, winning 3-1 at home.
Marion (3-21 overall, 3-9 7A/6A-East, 1-3 6A-East) still controls it's destiny for this year's Class 6A state baseball tournament in Sheridan.
The Patriots have the same record (3-1) against the 6A-East ahead of a home-and-away series with Searcy on Tuesday and Friday.
Jonesboro is in first place in the 6A-East with a 4-0 record, and they have clinched a state tournament berth.
Two more teams of Searcy, Marion and Mountain Home will qualify for the state tournament. On Tuesday, Marion senior Peyton Moore was the tough-luck loser as he threw six innings, allowed nine hits and three runs, but Marion could manage just four hits and one run in support.
Yesterday, Jonesboro scored the game's first 10 runs before Marion got on the board.
Marion will host Searcy on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
before returning that trip on Friday at the same time.
