Black Knights drop state opener
WMCS one loss away from elimination
Sports Editor West Memphis Christian opened its run at the 2016 North State tournament title with a 13-3 loss against Tri County Academy on Tuesday.
'We made too many errors and walks were the killers in yesterday's loss,' said West Memphis Christian's second-year head coach Gary Cordell.
'We left 10 runners on base and had several opportunities to bust the game open yesterday but couldn't do it.'
Cole Wann took the loss for West Memphis Christian on the mound.
Offensively, the Black Knights got 2-for-2 days from Jacob Hatcher and Evin Cooper, 1-for-3 days from Hunter Weathers and Charlie Farr, as well as a 2-for-3 day from Parker Benson.
The loss doesn't mean the season is over for West Memphis Christian, however. The Black Knights will get two chances to save their season at home this afternoon, starting at 3 p.m. at Tilden Rodgers Park.
West Memphis Christian will host Tri County Academy for a doubleheader, needing to win both to advance to the second round in Winona, Mississippi. A loss in either game will eliminate the Black Knights.
