Two locals organizations are coming together for one big event on the weekend when April turns into May.
Po Boys auction will host a Junk in The Trunk Market (JITT) to benefit Hope House Ministries of West Memphis.
This isn’t the first time Bo Rodgers with the auction and Linda Hayward with JITT have paired up to help a good causes. The 8th Street Mission for Jesus Christ, Special Olympics and the FedEx House benefited from the efforts they led. JITT is a Facebook vintage auction site that makes live in person charity markets a few times each year. Proceeds have gone to various causes in recent years.
“Money raised by our members we donated $54,000 to the FedEx House over a couple of years,” said Hayward.
The group recently collected and repurposed old trophies for the Special Olympics.
“People aren’t using them any more, so we thought what if we donated them to the Special Olympics for prizes,” said Hayward.
“Within one week we gave 492 trophies to them as well as $1,400 in cash.”
A big spread of children’s toys made Christmas memorable at the 8th Street Mission and others for the last three years courtesy of Po Boys.
“We raised $2,500 and broke it down into $500 increments,” said Haywood of the auction before Christmas. “Our members nominated those in need and we passed out the money to families in need and organizations. For one family we paid off their utility bills. One check went to the Omega Veterans Funds and another to the Humane Society.”
“We’ve been helping Pastor Brown at 8th Street for the past three years,” said Rodgers. “We just thought we could reach out and help another charity this year, and Hope House was suggested. God has blessed our business and we want to pass it on.”
Hope House will benefit directly from the vintage sale with $10 from each booth entry fee. All proceeds from the Bo Boy grill and concession sales along with a bake sale will be turned into cash for the cause.
The JITT market is April 30 and May 1 from 7 a.m.
to 5 p.m. at Po Boys 6072 Highway 70, just west of the Airport Road and Broadway intersection.
