CAP cadet takes orientation flight

Garrett gets a turn behind the controls in the friendly skies

From 99th Composite Squadron Arkansas Wing Civil Air Patrol

Civil Air Patrol Cadet Akirah Garrett was recently given her first in a series of orientation flights. Cadets are given the chance to fly the plane with a certified cadet orientation pilot. The orientation flight program gives cadets the basics of how a plane flies.

CAP offers during the summer the opportunity for those interested in pursuing a flying career to go to flight encampments where they get ground school and flight time. If successful each cadet is given the opportunity to solo fly in a CAP airplane. Cadets in the Civil Air Patrol learn about aviation, aerospace, emergency services and leadership training.

There are local, state and national activities such as Cadet International Cadet Exchange Program, Flight Encampments for power and glider aircraft, and much more.

If you would like to find out how you can get orientation rides and become eligible to apply for aviation and aerospace activities, then attend one our meetings at the West Memphis Boys & Girls Club. Meetings are Monday nights, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. For more information contact LTC Larry Webster at 870-225-6849.
