Black Knights look to move above .500 at home on Thursday
Sports Editor West Memphis Christian got back to the .500 mark earlier this week.
The Black Knights got to 6-6 overall and 1-1 in the district in a 22-9 win against league rival Delta Academy.
Parker Benson notched the win on the mound for West Memphis Christian.
Benson had a day at the plate as well. The hurler went 3-4 at the dish, while Evin Cooper was 4-5.
Hunter Weathers was 2-3 with a home run.
Matthew Baker was 2-2, Manning Shidler finished 2-3, as did Brady Holloway. Cole Wann posted a 2-6 night, Jacob Hatcher went 2-5 and Charlie Farr checked in with a 1-4 outing.
“We played hard. We hit the ball very well, and the kids are ready to win the school’s first district championship in many years,” said West Memphis Christian second-year head coach Gary Cordell.
The Black Knights were also winners in the junior varsity game.
Parker Stewart picked up the win on the mound, while also finishing 1-1 with the bat.
Jaiden Ryals was 2-2 and Jacob Phillips came up with a 1-1 day at the dish.
The West Memphis Christian junior varsity team is now 4-2-1 in 2016. West Memphis Christian will continue its drive for a league title on Thursday at home. The Black Knights will host Delta Academy for a varsity/junior varsity doubleheader. The varsity game will begin at 4 p.m., followed by the junior varsity contest.
