Blue Devils fall in Jonesboro

West Memphis plays at Wynne Friday

WM School District The West Memphis Blue Devils showed some grit Tuesday in Jonesboro, but wound up being swept by the Hurricane in a 7A/6AEast Conference matchup.

West Memphis fell 8-2 in the opener and then lost 80 in the nightcap to fall to 4-11 overall and 0-4 in the conference.

In the opener, Jonesboro snapped a 2-2 tie with a pair of runs in the fourth before adding on four more for insurance in the bottom of the 6th.

However, the Blue Devils outhit the Hurricane 6-5, led by junior third baseman Hayden Spears and senior Jordan Walls, both of whom had two hits.

Senior Trevor Wise led the way for the Blue Devils with 2 RBI.

Starting and losing pitcher Nick Allsbrook went the first four innings for West Memphis and struck out three before being relieved by Spears.

In the nightcap, Jonesboro used a pair of two-run uprisings in the second and fourth innings to thwart the solid pitching of West Memphis starter Tyler Thorn and reliever Conner Allen, who fanned four in three innings.

The Blue Devil hurlers were victimized by two errors behind them.

Walls again led the Blue Devils with a base hit.

West Memphis is set to play again Friday at Wynne.
