Marion completes sweep of Central

Lady Pats use another big inning to get to 3- 0

Sports Editor After hanging 17 runs in a 17-2 win against Little Rock Central in game one of a 7A/6A-East doubleheader, Marion picked right up where it left off in the nightcap.

The Lady Pats moved to 3-0 overall and 2-0 in the 7A/6A-East by downing Central 21-2.

Upon entering the second inning tied 1-1 with the Lady Tigers, Marion responded by scoring six times in the second inning, three times in the third inning and tossing up 11 in the fourth inning to put Little Rock Central away.

Junior Hope Phipps made her first start of the spring inside the circle and surrendered just a pair of runs, one of which was earned. Phipps gave up just one hit and struck three batters out.

Once Marion’s line-up got going, it proved to be hard to slow down. Every Lady Pat starter scored at least two runs in the win.

Lead-off hitter Mabry Watson was 3-4, with three runs scored. Right-fielder Morgan Weaver was 4-4, scoring twice, while also driving in a pair of runs.

Phipps reached base three times, scoring twice.

After going 4-4 in the opener, senior catcher Raygan Shelton stayed hot, going 3-3 with a double, a triple, a home run and six RBI. She also had six RBI in the first game.

Micah Tolleson reached base three times, scored twice, and drove in three runs in her first start at third base of the season.

McKenzie Shirley finished 3-4, scoring three times, and drove in two runs of her own.

First basewoman Haley Cook reached in her first three at-bats, and scored all three times.

Senior centerfielder Kristin Bolton was 2-3, scoring twice, while also stealing a base and Josie Moix reached two times, scoring on each occasion.

Marion is back in action today in the Brookland Tournament. They will play there on Friday and Saturday.

The Lady Pats will take a break from the action for Spring Break before jumping right back into the first on March 31 when they host 2015 Class 7A runners- up Cabot in a 7A/6AEast doubleheader, which begins at 4:30 p.m.
