Citing the advice of the school’s attorneys, Marion Superintendent Don Johnston had no comment regarding the job status of head boys basketball coach and Dean of Students Irving Clay on Friday morning.
Clay was absent for Marion’s first-round game against Lake Hamilton on Wednesday evening in Russellville.
Prior to the game, Marion athletic director Paul Johnston declined comment on Clay’s absence. The team was coached by first-year assistant coach Dakota Weatherley in a 66-39 loss.
In addition to Clay, senior guard Ashton Mitchell was also not with the team in Russellville.
Clay has been the head basketball coach at Marion since the 20042005 school year and led the team to a 14-11 record this season, including a 9-5 mark in the 7A/6A-East.
