Mountain Home completes sweep
WM School District MOUNTAIN HOME –The Mountain Home girls outscored West Memphis 21-0 from three-point distance as the Lady Devils bowed out with a 49-36 loss here last Friday night.
The Lady Devils, losers of 8 of their last 10 games, finish the season 15-11 after winning 10 of their first 12 games.
'I thought we played hard,' said West Memphis head coach Shelia Burns.
'We were in the game most of the way, but I think we got frustrated toward the end because our shots weren't falling.'
The Lady Devils failed to scratch on 9 attempts from three-point range while Mountain Home's Hannah Pfeifer sank 5 of her team's 7 treys to spell the difference in the game.
West Memphis found themselves down by as much as 10 points (20-10) in the first half, but it clawed back to make it 2216 Mountain Home at halftime.
It looked like the Lady Devils had found a way to solve the Lady Bomber defense when sophomore Morgan Christian hit a runner with 4:14 to play in the third quarter to cut Mountain Home's lead to 23-22.
But Pfeifer came down and hit two three-pointers on the next two trips down the floor.
'(Three-point shooting) is something we do well,' Mountain Home coach Dell Leonard admitted.
'We don't want to get three-point disease, however, and there have been nights when we have.'
Mountain Home opened up a bigger lead in the fourth quarter as Cassie Martin got hot from midrange and with two of her free throws with 3:16 to play in the game, it gave the hosts a 42-29 lead.
'Mountain Home's a good 6A team and they're going to go far in their state tournament,' Burns added.
Sable Greer scored 11 points to lead West Memphis while Ty Bullins, a junior, and senior Anquanetta Chatt each scored 6.
Pfeifer led all scorers with 15 points while Martin pumped in 13.
